Sophie’s Story

Picture
Sophie is a 400 yr. old Live Oak tree. The tree had been named after the original owner, Sophie Brandt, before we bought the property. When we first looked at the 42 acres of ranch land , it was very unimpressive. The property was grown up with grass and weeds with an old dilapidated barn that was falling apart. We were not interested in the property until we found the majestic old oak that was towering above all the run-down signs of neglect. The tree was like something we had never seen before and it caught our eye immediately. We made an offer on the property based on the old oak tree and the potential it held for the future of the land. The tree is 30 ft. around the trunk and the branches spread out and come back to the ground to brace itself on all sides. Standing under the majestic canopy, one can only imagine the stories of the pioneers that camped under her and the campfires that lit up the evening skies. She started as a tiny acorn and grew into a symbol of beauty, endurance and shelter.  Surviving the storms for hundreds of years has only been possible  because of the deep roots   that have found their nourishment in the spring that flows beneath her. Sophie is the “centerpiece” of Still Waters Ranch B&B. Many travelers who have witnessed her splendor have found peace and serenity under her shelter.
To all who travel here for whatever reason, the truth that Sophie bears witness to is always constant;  if we put down deep roots in Jesus Christ, we will whether the storms, flourish and become all that God designed us to be. Eph. 3:16-20
